Self Care (Read Here)

One of the most influential factors in the journey of your growth is caring for one’s self. In the path of succeeding, we tend to disregard this aspect and get crude towards ourselves. Believe it or not, but when you overlook your physical and mental rest, it will somehow reflect in your outputs. Imagine having a garden with various beautiful flowers and plants, they bloom when you keep watering them consistently. The moment you stop taking care of them, they’ll wither. Well, our mind is no different from the garden, who needs to be taken care of, to produce the desired results.

Self Care can be conjectured in many modes, namely, Physical, Emotional and Mental. Everyone will have their prioritized factors in practising self-care but when all these factors are clubbed in a package, that’s when we truly get a refined meaning of the term, ‘Self Care’.

When I say, ‘Physical Self Care’, it does not mean curling up in your blanket and taking rest for the whole day. Well, you can try that too, but in specified circumstances. A broader meaning to this term is justified when you add healthy habits to your routine to keep your body fit and healthy. It includes exercise, yoga, healthy diet and a proper sleeping pattern. Unlike me, if you’re a fitness enthusiast, Kudos! You have already accomplished this parameter of self-care. But, for those who fall in the other category along with me, an outdoor game, a nice walk and a healthy diet can always be our saviours. I believed that I can never push myself to make such efforts, but I was stunned to learn that I actually could. And so can you. That’s when your body too would agree with your salubrious routine.

‘Emotional Self Care’ can be comprehended as ‘Self Realisation’. Listening to your wishes and not jeopardizing them for others can also be termed as self-care. Accept yourself as who you are and stop suppressing your feelings for the sake of others. This statement itself stands as an expression of a fresh and healthy state of mind.

Mental Self Care simply means – Take a break. As discussed in the previous step, ‘Digital Detox‘, it is important for our mind to take breaks at times to keep running the marathon. Plan a ‘Me-Day’ to do whatever you like, which relaxes your mind and takes it off from the stressful everyday routine. Read a book, eat your favourite dish and take a refreshing nap. Watch your favourite Netflix series and even if you can’t go to the movies, plan a movie day at home! Self-care is rewarding yourself for the hard work that you’ve been doing and appreciating yourself so that you feel even more motivated after the ‘Self Care Break’.

Self Care is not confined to these generalised parameters only, it is a wider concept. Every sector of society may implement it as propitious for them. For girls like me, it also means to start using those countless face masks and hair masks that we have stuffed at our homes. But the thing to be remembered is the idea behind this practice. Mixing all the ingredients, it can be conceded as the practice of analysing your needs for self-care and then implementing accurate steps to fulfil the requirements of your routine.

Before the pandemic times, we would agree we had an evergreen excuse of the paucity of time, which unfortunately and fortunately at the same time, does not exist any more. So, what will be a better time to stop procrastinating such tasks and start implementing them! Keep reminding yourself that you’re doing good and gradually you’ll attain your ultimate goal. All it takes is consistency, but meanwhile, don’t forget how important it is to take care of yourself. Don’t go too hard on yourself, or the inner you will be hard on your goals.
